Governor Schwarzenegger Appoints 2 New Members to the State Central Valley Flood Protection Board

Governor Schwarzenegger announced, on September 14, 2007, the appointment of Emma Suarez and John W. Brown to the State Central Valley Flood Protection Board, bringing the Board membership to 7 members. Ms. Suarez and Mr. Brown join Benjamin Carter, Francis "Butch" Hodgkins, Maureen "Lady Bug" Doherty, Rose Marie Burroughs, and Teri Rie who were appointed in 2005.
Governor Schwarzenegger's appointment message in 2005:
"California faces significant flood challenges. To protect our communities, economy and keep Californians safe we need a comprehensive and ongoing effort to reduce these risks with better planning, new investments, and improved flood infrastructure," said Governor Schwarzenegger. "The Central Valley Flood Protection Board oversees flood control in the Central Valley and each one of these individuals shares my commitment to ensuring these lifesaving efforts are not ignored or postponed. My Administration will continue to push for action in the Legislature and support from the federal government."
These positions do not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem.
The State Central Valley Flood Protection Board's mission is to oversee flood control along the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers and their tributaries in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Board works with various agencies of the federal, State and local governments in establishing, planning, constructing, operating, and maintaining flood control works. In addition, the Board raises public awareness of flood management issues; establish policy for input and oversight on capital outlay, operational and maintenance area budgets.
