Designated Floodway refers to the channel of the stream and that portion of the adjoining floodplain reasonably required providing for the passage of a design flood; it is also the floodway between existing levees as adopted by The Board or the Legislature.

The State Central Valley Flood Protection Board, under Section 8609 of the Water Code, has the authority to designate floodways in the Central Valley. California Code of Regulations, Title 23, Waters, provide further details of the Board’s regulatory authority. Specifically, Title 23, Article 5, Section 107 regulates uses in Designated Floodways.

This section provides Board approved Designated Floodway maps. Please use these maps to determine if your project is within the designated area. These maps are in TIF format and are approximately 10MB each in file size.
